State Bank of Hyderabad was the brainchild of an idea of Hyderabad Deccan ruled by the Nizams. The purpose of its establishment of the year 1942 was to play role of a central bank of erstwhile Nizam state so its name was chosen Hyderabad State Bank.

The Hyderabad State Bank got its new name State Bank of Hyderabad of the year 1956 when the Reserve Bank of India took its control. This bank has the distinction of being the first subsidiary State Bank of India bank.
