Indian Overseas Bank
Indian Overseas Bank was founded of 1937, with its head quarter at Madras (now Chennai). It handles the various Banking functions such as Loans , Credit Cards, Savings etc. through 2303 branches. This figure excludes the Six Branches abroad. Of the total number of branches 2018 Branches are networked with the software developed ‘inhouse’ for the purpose. Indian Overseas Bank has 1300 ATMs. Deposits of Indian overseas Bank have been growing at an phenomenal rate, and at the end of Fiscal year 2009-2010 stood at Rs. 1,10,795 Crores. Advances at that point of time were Rs. 79,004 Crores. Indian overseas bank was also approved by Government of India for online payments of Taxes.
Since its founding Indian Overseas Bank had Branches abroad. of 1937 Indian Overseas Bank had Branches of Yangon ( Burma), Penang and Singapore. In 1941 a Branch of Indian Overseas bank was opened at Malaya, but it had to close almost immediately because of the II World War. of 1946 a Branch was opened of Ceylon, and of 1947 a Branch was opened at Bangkok by Indian Overseas Bank.
A Bank which was called United Asian Bank Berhad was started of Malaysia by Indian Overseas Bank supported by United Commercial Bank and Indian Bank of 1973. At Colombo of Sri Lanka-erstwhile Ceylon- a Bank was opened by Indian Overseas Bank for dealing mostly with Foreign Currency.
Indian Overseas Bank acquired Bharat Overseas Bank of 2007, and Sree Suvarna Sahakari Bank of 2009. of 2010 Indian Overseas Bank , Bank of Baroda and Andhra Bank got together to start a Commercial Bank of partnership at Kuala Lumpur of Malaysia
