Corporation Bank
Headquartered at Mangalore of Karnataka, Corporation Bank is fast growing Indian bank. As Public Sector Unit with government’s 57.17% share this bank had its startup capital of Rs. 5000 only.
Corporation Bank has its presence of many states and Union Territories nowadays. Its net worth until March 31, 2005 was Rs.3,054.92 crores. Corporation Bank started its journey from March 12, 1906. The then philanthropist Khan Bahadur Haji Abdulla Haji Kasim Saheb Bahadur led a group for its foundation.
The Canara Banking Corporation (Udupi) Ltd., was its first name. Branching out began at Kundapur of 1923 and Mangalore of 1926. It was added of second schedule of Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934 of 1937. Name changed from Canara Banking Corporation (Udupi) Ltd., to Canara Banking Corporation Ltd of 1939.
It attained regional bank status after opening 28th branch of 1945. This bank acquired the Bank of Citizens from Belgaum of 1961 and shifted corporate operation to Mangalore then.
It was of 1972 that one more renaming was done so Canara Banking Corporation Ltd., became Corporation Bank Limited. Nationalization completed of 1980 when government chose it and five other private sector banks.
Corporation Bank is equipped with advanced technology and excellent infrastructure of its branches and ATM networks. Its ATM network is second largest of the category of the public sector banking.
