City Union Bank Ltd.
Founded on 31 October 1904, the Kumbakonam Bank Limited was one of the regional banks of the Thanjavur District Tamil Nadu then. It was renamed to City Union Bank later. History of this bank defines that its inception was an outcome of the few dedicated citizens of this area of Kumbakonam, the Tamil Nadu state.
Although today’s City Union Bank serves large number of clients—including accountholders and various other categories of customers but this bank had primary aim to perform its role as a regional bank so that it could cater to the needs of people of Thanjavur region.
It was on 24 January 1930 that an initiative was taken to start first Branch of this bank at Mannargudi. This was the start of a new journey of this bank whose several new branches were opened at the places including Nagapattinam, Sannanallur, Ayyampet, Tirukattupalli, Tiruvarur, Manapparai, Mayuram and Porayar of the period of two decades.
March 22, 1945 was historic day while Reserve Bank of India included City Union Bank Ltd., of Second Schedule Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934. Big leap of City Union Bank Ltd., was of 1957 while it took Acquired the Common Wealth Bank Limited.
Today City Union Bank Ltd., is common banking solution of the region that serves many accountholders through its branches of the state.
